Ming-Wei Hsieh, violinist/violist

Ming-Wei Hsieh is a Taiwanese violinist recognized for his versatility as a soloist,chamber musician, orchestral performer, and educator. Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, he iscurrently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of North Texas, where healso serves as a Teaching Assistant in the undergraduate violin program, teaching private violin lessons, chamber music, and orchestral excerpt classes.


Since moving to the United States in 2019, Hsieh has been actively engaged in both performance and music education throughout Texas. He has participated in numerous musicfestivals, chamber music concerts, orchestral performances, and outreach programs across Houston and Dallas. He previously earned a full scholarship to study at the University of

Houston Moores School of Music, where he completed both a Master of Music degree and a Certificate in Music Performance under the guidance of Kirsten Yon. During his studies, he regularly served as concertmaster and principal of the Moores Symphony Orchestra and Moores Opera Orchestra, and also performed with the Aura Contemporary Ensemble. In 2023, he was invited by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston to perform at its National Day Reception.


Hsieh is also passionate about violin pedagogy and orchestral coaching. He founded his own private teaching studio in Texas and has taught violin at several middle and high schools in the Houston and Dallas areas. In 2019, he was invited to serve as violin faculty at the Yu Yuan Strings Ensemble Festival in Malaysia. Prior to his studies in the United States, he worked as a teaching assistant for string orchestras at multiple elementary schools in Taiwan from 2016 to 2019.


As a performer, Hsieh has appeared with ensembles including the Taiwanese Artists Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Soloists Symphony Orchestra, Apex String Ensemble, and Counterpoint Ensemble. He was invited to perform as a chamber musician at the Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival in both 2020 and 2021. In 2017, he appeared as a soloist performing Violin Concerto No. 1 with the National University of Tainan Symphony Orchestra. He has also participated in outreach concert tours to rural schools throughout Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Penghu, and performed internationally in Japan with the NUTN Piano Quintet at Kyoto University of the Arts.


Currently, Hsieh serves as concertmaster of the UNT Symphony Orchestra and performs as both a member and soloist with the UNT Baroque Orchestra. He is an active violinist in the Texas and Louisiana areas. He serves as a section violinist with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Waco Symphony Orchestra, Texarkana Symphony Orchestra, and Abilene

Philharmonic Orchestra, and is also Principal Second Violin with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra.


Hsieh received his Master of Music degree and Certificate in Music Performance from the University of Houston. He currently studies violin with Chloé Kiffer and Philip Lewis, and Baroque violin with Cynthia Roberts at the University of North Texas.
