Steven Hill, Drums & Percussion

Mr. Steven started playing percussion in middle school at the age of 12. Taking advantage of every performance opportunity, he traveled throughout the region with Concert, Jazz, Marching, and Rock ensembles. During summer vacations he performed as a percussionist for a variety of musical productions at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. After attending UWRF on a music scholarship for one year, he transferred to the University of North Texas, where he played drum set and percussion with many ensembles including the Jazz, Brazilian, and Drumline. While studying at UNT, Steven also had the opportunity to study with respected drum set professor Ed Soph and ultimately earned a Bachelor's degree in Music with a minor in Sociology and Anthropology. 

 

Mr. Steven has toured extensively throughout the US and abroad and recorded with artists on Sub Pop and Bella Union record labels. He has also participated in recording sessions with producer Steve Albini, who is primarily known for his work with artists such as Nirvana and Robert Plant.

 

Mr. Steven has been teaching drum set and percussion to students of all ages for more than a decade. In addition to performing and teaching, he also provides piano and percussion accompaniment for dance classes for the University of North Texas Dance department. He is well versed not only in drum set, but also in mallets, concert and marching snare, and many other percussion instruments.
